The Pride of Britain Awards
The hunt is on to honour islanders who tirelessly and without thanks give to the community.
The Pride of Britain Awards recognise people who work hard to fundraise for local good causes.
Lee Butler is last year’s winner and organises the Big Ride Out raising cash for Holidays For Heroes.
He says the awards also lift charities’ profiles:
‘It promotes charities on the whole and the work that’s being done for charities. It’s so vital for them, they all need the exposure. They need the publicity, that’s something charities thrive on.’
Run4Men Registration Open
Men are being encouraged to sign up for this year’s Run4Men.
It’s taking part on 25th September, in aid of Cancer Research UK.
There’s a choice of 5, 10 and 15 kilometre routes.
Last year’s event raised £8,500 towards the charity’s work in Southampton, where many islanders with the disease are treated.

Normandie 1 Cable Beached In Jersey
A new cable which will provide Guernsey electricity via Jersey has come ashore here.
The Normandie 1 is 27km long and beaching 650metres of it was a difficult job.
However, it was completed without issue.
There’s still a long way to go before it can be used in 2017, but the project is currently running to schedule.

Ommaroo Garden Party
People living in Havre des Pas are being invited to a special garden party.
The Ommaroo Hotel in the seaside resort in marking its 100th birthday with afternoon tea on 9th September.
Neighbours can apply to the hotel for tickets by tomorrow.
